LOCATION
Bareneed Studios allows artists to escape the hustle and bustle of urban life, while achieving focus and creative inspiration in the raw and natural setting of Bareneed, on Newfoundland’s scenic Port de Grave peninsula.
Perched on the rugged shores of this tiny town, this new artist residency is a rarity, as not many of the province’s buildings survive standing so close to the sea. The buildings’ rustic uniqueness is further highlighted as one absorbs the magnificent bay windows’ view, which evokes a sense of wonder and awe within all who enter the room.
Like many other places in Newfoundland and Labrador is experiencing declining populations, Bareneed faces great risk of heritage loss. The outport’s seafaring presence and identity can be somewhat preserved if people from all over chose to embrace its peaceful, nostalgic charm. Conveniently located east of Bay Roberts and merely a one-hour drive from St. John’s, the studio’s tranquil and rugged landscape is rural and remote, but minutes away from urban amenities. This distinct setting makes it an ideal venue for artists to create in just about any artistic medium.
